Ryan Friedrichs, 41, Car Accident, Death Obituary: Community Mourns

MARSHALL COUNTY, Kan. — Family, friends, and members of the Marysville and Marshall County communities are mourning the tragic loss of 41-year-old Ryan Friedrichs, who died Monday following a collision between an industrial farm sprayer and a Union Pacific train in northeast Kansas.

According to the Kansas Highway Patrol, the crash occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. near the railroad crossing at 675 Harvest Road. Investigators reported that Friedrichs was operating an industrial sprayer southbound on a private driveway located just south of Harvest Road when the vehicle entered the railroad crossing.

Authorities said the sprayer failed to stop at a posted stop sign before proceeding onto the tracks, where it was struck by a westbound Union Pacific train. The impact ejected Friedrichs from the vehicle.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene, but Friedrichs succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

The tragic accident has left family members, friends, and community residents grieving the sudden loss of a man remembered for his strong work ethic, dedication, and connections within the local agricultural community. Those who knew him have expressed shock and sadness as they reflect on his life and the impact he made on those around him.

In addition to Friedrichs’ death, two train conductors were injured in the collision. Officials said both were transported to Community Memorial Healthcare in Marysville with serious injuries and are receiving medical treatment.

The Kansas Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
