The Hale County community is grieving the death of 24-year-old Librian Jones Jr. of Greensboro, who was fatally shot during a community event over the weekend. Authorities report that no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
According to Hale County Sheriff Michael Hamilton, the shooting occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday, June 6, during the “Class Day Out” event near the 16000 block of Alabama Highway 14 in the Sawyerville community. Sheriff Hamilton noted that the shooting did not take place inside the designated venue area.
Emergency responders were called following reports of gunfire. When deputies arrived, they found Jones suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported for medical treatment but later succumbed to his injuries. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators have identified a suspect, Karderrel Winn, who remains at large. Authorities have not released a motive, and the circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s State Bureau of Investigation is now leading the case alongside local authorities.
The community continues to mourn Jones’s death, and officials are urging anyone with information about the suspect or the incident to come forward.
